Selective pallet racking, steel shelving, rivet shelving and wide span shelving is often referred and sold as "starter units" and "adder units". This is important because in order to create the proper bill of material for a racking or shelving job it is critical analyze your layout and determine how many starter units and how many adder units you have. Since sections of racking and shelving are able to utilize a common upright or post you can save on the number of uprights or posts required if you can determine how many starter and add on units you have. Starter units can either be free standing or used to start a row. Add-on units attach to starter units. Starter units have two uprights and add-on units have one upright. When analyzing your rack or shelving layout it is best to talk in terms of rows and units per row. Example: one row of 4 units requires one starter unit and three add-on units. Lastly it is important to determine an elevation view of your racking or shelving showing number of shelf levels and clear vertical spacing between shelf levels. With this information we are able to get you a firm racking or shelving quotation with a firm bill of material required to do the job.
